Phil Haigh
Halifax P.S.
I am almost 62 years old and have been a member of
Halifax P.S. for about 4 years and for
the last 2 years have looked after the Society web site. Until buying
a computer for work in 2000, I had no interest in photography but as digital
photography has gradually developed I have become much more
keen.
My main interest in photography is landscape and my favourite location
is the coast of Northumberland. I have taken
hundreds of shots of this area and I really enjoy going out well before sunrise
to capture the special light available at this time. Many times I come back
with nothing but on other times return with shots that make it all worth while.
I also enjoy steam railway photography and like to combine this with a
landscape feel to the shots. Last Christmas I changed my previous Nikon D 70
camera for the Nikon D300 which I am finding to be a superb camera. A few weeks
ago I also bought an Epson R 1900 so that I can print images at A3 size. I have
orders at the moment from family members for framed images of Whitby and Robin
Hoods Bay so
this is an area that I will be visiting several times this summer. I use
Photoshop and Nikon capture NX to process my images and since buying the
Nikon D300 I am taking shots much more in Raw. I also use a tripod for most of
my landscape shots and also use Cokin graduated neutral density filters on my
camera lenses for my sunrise and sunset images. I am inspired greatly by
the work of Joe Cornish, David Noton and Charlie Waite.
